Traditional Installation over a suitable concrete slab

Hartstone recommends that you use the services of a reputable stone mason in your area.

Conventional Mud Bed Installation

We recommend a Portland Cement lime mortar bed (lime helps with the grab).

Thin set installation (generally not recommended for exterior applications)

We recommend a "Heavy Stone" thin set applied with a 1/2" notched trowel.

Interior Installation  (above grade)

Structure must be sound -minimal flexing- and sufficient to carry weight factor.

We recommend a 3/8" mortar board mechanically applied to the sub floor.
Thin set as recommended above.

Spacers
We strongly recommend using spacers. Our product is flat and dimensionally consistent, normally within 1/4".  While     smaller joints can work with single shape patterns, a random pattern requires a 3/4" joint.

Cleaning

Soil will stain the surface of the tiles.  If landscaping follows installation of tiles, we strongly recommend protecting tile surface with some form of sheeting.  This makes the clean up prior to sealing much easier and preserves the inherent qualities of your tile.

We recommend a mild detergent and scrub brush.

DO NOT use a power washer or acid to clean your tile.

A VERY WEAK acid solution is acceptable if professionally administered.

Sealing

We recommend that you seal your Hartstone tiles to protect them from staining and for ease of maintenance. See more..
