Green Initiative

Hartstone, LLC recognizes the importance of producing our products with minimal impact on the environment. We take pride in creating our tiles to be as ecologically beneficial as possible, from the selection of our raw materials to our fabrication process to the installed product. Our green initiatives allow us to create products that not only surpass our high quality standards but also promote sustainability resulting in eco-friendly attributes. The Hartstone team believes a “green” product should be high-performance and created using less energy, water and natural resources while creating as little waste as possible. Resource and energy efficiency, water conservation and selection of raw materials are critical components in the Hartstone process.

Energy Efficiency: Since Hartstone products are fabricated in a former, underground limestone mine, our products are able to slow cure naturally, and our entire facility uses no heat or air-conditioning. In addition, our process uses minimal electricity as our tiles are literally “hand-crafted” with manual forming, pouring and the use of manual conveyor systems. Only our mixer and overhead lighting use electricity.

Water Usage: Recognizing water as a precious natural resource, Hartstone takes great pride in the fact that we use a minimal amount of water in our entire operation. Only a small amount of water is used in our mixing process and in the cleanup of our equipment.

Raw Materials: Hartstone is made using cement, sand and limestone. ALL these raw materials are not only purchased locally but they are also produced locally, resulting in minimal transportation costs and further advancing Hartstone’s effort to promote a true green life-cycle product. While we have perfected and promote our “natural” tile colors requiring no dyes, we also recognize the discriminating tastes of our clients and offer select custom colors. We have carefully chosen superior dyes to use in our tiles that are made using 95-99% recycled materials. In addition, any admixtures added to promote the density, safety, and sustainability of our products are 100% biodegradable and the handmade forms we create to make our tiles are recycled as many times as possible.
